This is my miter saw stand. It uses a Rockler shop stand (18″ x 24″ which is 1/8″ thick steel and very heavy duty) which I then modified as you see. The wings fold up/down for easy storing or for use. The miter saw fence extends to a full 8′ (yes, 8 feet) on either side if you need to go out that far. It’s very mobile and can be locked into place with the locking casters (although I wouldn’t move it all around with the fence fully extended). If I need to cut longer boards for siding or some very long trim or something I then use use a shop stand to support the length of the stock.
I used aluminum angle for the miter saw fence and then attached MDF to it and used a knobs and T-Stot router bit to make the fence adjustable and able to move out if necessary.
What I really like about the stand is that the wings are wide giving the ability to place wide boards on it for cutting, that it’s so mobile, that it can become very large if necessary but at the same time stores in a compact area.
This is not to be taken to a job site but for the home woodworker’s shop in the garage or whatever.
I modified designs from many other extremely helpful woodworker’s posting their miter saw stands to come up with this design.
In retrospect, it was a project well worth the time and effort to make and I love using it as compared to what I used before – just a job-site saw horse style miter saw stand (useful on the job site but not as nice as this).
I’m sure that new Bosch miter saw would look beautiful on this stand!
