I remodeled my 8 x 10 mess of a galley kitchen into an 8 x 13 functional dream. I needed a pantry so I took the blank, zero-lot-line wall at the end and cut the sheetrock to the outside sheathing and removed one stud. It is loadbearing so I put in a sturdy header.
I insulated it with a space blanket and covered that with an 1/8″ sheet of Masonite. I couldn’t project it too far because I had drawers on one side and had to leave room for the washing machine to be removed on the other side. The depth is 6″ with 1/2″ thick doors. I put a mural on the doors and that was the toughest part of the job. It was like trying to nail Jell-O to a wall.
You can see that it is very functional and the pantry isn’t a deep cabinet where stuff gets lost.

Space blanket?
I have a feeling that doesn't have much insulating value...
Where are you located?
That sure would not fly in Edmonton, AB.
That would be one big heat sink that you would dread going into the kitchen.
My husband and I have been thinking about replacing our kitchen cabinets . We have lived in our home for almost twelve years, and the kitchen cabinets are really out of date and looking really gross. We've given them a very good cleaning to see if that would help improve their appearance, to no avail regrettably. We've been wanting to get a good price for kitchen cabinets . Are there any specialty store that offer promotions? Or should we go somewhere basic, like Home Depot and see if we can find kitchen cabinets ?
