rounded cedar shake jig
Did you ever want to add a detail on the exterior of your project with heritage style shake, but didn’t want to morgage the house just to do it. Well here is a simple alternative.
Using a bundle of premium cedar shake shingles as your material, rip the entire bundle to the width desired. (I used the 4″ wide). An average bundle should yeild you approximently 18-20 sq. ft. after process.
With a drill press and a hole saw 1/8″ wider than you stock width (example. 4″ stock- 4 1/8″ hole saw) set up an angled block on table so that only half of the hole saw comes in contact with the work. *Important tip sharper is better
Set up blocks at 3 sides of cutting block in relation to contact points of hole saw. This is so your work piece dosn’t move while cutting. Set your drill press ratio to a med- high revolution and begin to cut. slow at first till you find the right speed for your tools and abilites.
To process an entire bundle took a little more than a half hour. The watse generated was used as starter and window and door shims.
Depending on the reviel you use, I used 5″, will either increase or decrease your coverage.(the more reliel the more sq. ft)
