This was a project that would have been more difficult if it were not for the article in Fine Homebuilding on “Coffered Ceilings“. The ceiling is made of poplar crown, baseboard, finger jointed trim boards, 1/4” Birch plywood and custom MDF trim. All inside corner joints were coped using a “CopeMaster” coping machine. Center medalions at intersections were made of 4 pieces of standard colonial trim. The individual coffers were dry-assembled in our shop to test for fit. Everything was labeled and delivered and install in the home. The entire process took approximately 3-4 days to complete. Painting was done by another contractor.
