Handmade Barrel Tile Set in Mortar
This house was built in the late 30’s, and for the restoration, the homeowner, and designer wanted a traditional barrel tile set in mortar. We used a custom color oxide which is not period correct, but it is what the homeowner wanted. Under the tile, we used two layers of #30 underlayment, a secondary water barrier and topped it off with Alwaplan 170 FR. Since the home is on the water at Miami Beach, we knew we wanted great storm protection. On the engineering uplift test, (required by Miami-Dade) the engineer tried to get a tile to budge and ended up maxing out his scale at -100. We were pleased with those results.
Beautiful handmade barrel tile set in mortar, the old fashoned way.
