My goal was to construct a contemporary, spacious, comfortable home with a strong sculptural presence that integrated a range of collected materials that I had accumulated over the previous decade. My budget for the project was approximately 1/2 of what a general contractor would ordinarily charge for a custom project this size. I was able to meet my goals by creative use of recycled materials, acting as the general contractor, providing sweat equity and being creative and flexible in making design modifications to achieve the budget.
