We are a military family, having saved up and purchased some land in the mountains of NC where we would like to “retire” to one day. Last summer we constructed the carriage house on the property, which includes a small apartment above a two car garage, which is on top of the wood shop. The wood shop is still a work in progress, requiring the dust collection to be plumbed in and the overall layout re-tweeked and set up. Attached are a few photos of the woodshop during contruction. Our GC and friend was Herb Cook Construction, Boone, NC.

The wood shop is completely in dis-array. This shot is taken from the wood shop carriage house door. You can see the open space (i hope) that the wood shop possesses. No columns holding up the garage floor. Electric plugs in the floor and ceiling. Plenty of flourescent light.
This is the two car garage. The reclaimed barnwood is from a local barn we tore down for a friend. The floor is an acid stain we purchased from the local Lowes.
Photo shows the entry to the wood shop office, which also has a 1/2 bath. The 8/4 walnut frame is for the bunk beds in the bunk room.
Wood shop during construction. Foundation was reinforced (steel) concrete poured walls, ranging between 8" - 12". The ceiling is steel bar joists holding up the poured concrete floor of the garage above. We sprayed the bar joists with rustoleum battleship gray before we moved anything in. Most of the construction material was from Blevins building supply in West Jefferson NC.
The carriage house. Roofing is a 40 year roof from Recla. Carriage house doors from Horizon doors.

Mac,
That is a beautifule building. It has great lines and is well positioned on the property. I like your use of the reclaimed wood as a wainscoting. This will be a great shop when it is up and running.
I hope your "retimement" comes soon. I've been "retired" for three years (after a 26 year run), and it has been quite busy.
