This kitchen is the centerpiece of an open concept 2000 square foot, self built bungalow loosely based on a craftsman theme. Like most of the home the kitchen was designed and built from scratch by the owner.
Material: Curly Hard Maple door panels and drawer fronts with rift sawn face frames & door frames. Island is Cherry. Drawer boxes are solid maple with walnut doweled accents. Carcases are pre-finished maple VC ply. Granite contertops.
Features included beaded face frame construcion, inset drawer/doors, solid panel 5 piece doors, tall Rev-A-Shelf pull out pantry beside fridge, Rev-A-Shelf blind corner pull out, Microwave drawer in island, Pot filler, Blum Tandem drawer slides, Blummotion on all doors & drawers, LED lighting under and over cabinet, Slate backsplash.
Beaded face frames were constructed with a small shop built jig for the hanuch and cope joints with quirk and bead cut by a standard router cutter. The concept was to use relatively plain, straight grain frames and figured panels/drawer fronts and to use plain craftsman details as to let the figured wood stand out on it’s own. The island is totally done in Cherry to give a bit of contrast to the maple.
The range hood was custom built to house a baffle type KOBE IN-026 700CFM insert and a new 10″ roof vent was added to service the high power, yet quiet fan. Additions such as the pot filler and mechanical pull outs add to the overall usability.
Under cabinet lighting is somewhat unconventional in that I used high intensity LED tape lights in a warm white tone. They are incredible, cool operating, very bright, dimmable and cheap to operate. The top cabinets have rain glass fronts with RGB led tape lights for accent. The RGB can be set to any shade desired but also can cycle through different patterns offering an interesting changing color feature. All DC controls are mounted behind the access panel for the range hood. Controls are RF so no need to run wires, just pop the wall controls in a drywall cutout and they work.
Backsplash is natural slate tile that compliments a similar product in the nearby foyer.
Finish is a multi-step process consisting of 2 different color applications of Holmstead dye stain, Boiled Linseed Oil, Sanding sealer and 2 coats of solvent based laquer.
