My home is in Broad Channel Queens, the island right behind Rockaway Beach. an area hurt by Sandy last October. Since my home is an old club house known locally as “The German Club” it was built at a higher elevation than nearby bungalows so water damage was minimal. The bathroom project I did was add a master bath. The job had to be done economically in a small 5′ x10.5′ sq. ft area. This is a full bath complete with a kohler bidet, and american standard one piece toilet, a medical-style pedal operated stainless-steel wash basin, and a shower. The room had to reflect the house’s hand-built, ecclectic style. To that end I built a stained glass window of a Pheonix rising that adds natural illumination, yet offers privacy in this windowless room. Of the more exotic material I chose in the project are actual fish fossils from pleistocene era Colorado which are placed as accents in the floor to ceiling terrazzo stone tile work. The rustic stone and stained glass lend the room an old feel that is balanced with a very modern/clean kohler/sterling shower unit. I can send additional photos if needed.
