This master bath remodel replaced the bath in a 6 year-old house. Poor layout, low quality materials and poor quality in contruction was the main decision for the upgrade. It was a constant battle with mold in the shower; and many of the showers in the houses in our neighborhood used mastic to adhere the tile which had become a problem. The tub was uncomfortable and one third of the body stuck out of the water while taking a bath.
The goal for the bathroom was to use the existing footprint but reconfigure the space. I wanted a larger shower and a heated floor. My wife wanted a claw-foot tub and a double vanity.
In order to accomplish our goal, the entire space was torn down to the studs and the plumbing was modified for the new layout. The shower was constructed with Schluter Kerdi and the floor was water-proofed with Schluter Ditra. The vanity was made by me along with the three 5-panel cherry doors.
