The Not-so-Big House with the Not-So-Big Addition with Green Features
My pre-civil war 1000sq/ft “hardship house” had no room for washer/dryer and one small unseemly bathroom off the kitchen. The kitchen had a 24-inch range/oven, little counter space, and tight traffic flow. A restricted 1/2 lot and a desire to preserve backyard footage made it a challenge to accommodate a larger kitchen, 2 full baths to accommodate frequent guests, w/d, and vestibule. I am a 30 year resident of the west Urbana neighborhood. I am deeply committed to the thriving community atmosphere. Working within my lot, I strived to create a sustainable and green space that integrates seamlessly into the neighborhood aesthetic. Smart design and scale accommodated everything! Moving the original bathroom allowed traffic flow and relocating a bedroom door gave a second full bath. I only needed to bump out 160 sq/ft. A tiny place turned into a jewel; function combined with beauty.
