New Contemporary Fireplace
This fireplace was designed to create a focal point in a great room. The 7.5″ deep wall was built of studs on 12″ centres as the wall was being tiled in 12″X24″ porcelain tiles over concrete board. As we already had a wood stove and chimney on the house, the burn units are steel ethanol burners which don’t need a chimney. The units are the largest ones approved in Canada but the 9 foot wide wall required 2 units to fill properly. Note the coffered ceiling, designed by me, the wife and executed successfully by hasband and adult son. Husband requests that all ignore the missing window trim, he has not yet ordered the Douglas Fir wood to custom make the trim.Â
