The original gas insert was finished with a surround of black marble floor tile and a mantle tacked together out of stock trim. We found a rusty cast iron surround with an ornate screen at a salvage shop. Built out the rest with soapstone fire brick and custom built mantle. I’m not a huge fan of trying to hide a phony gas log fire but in this case it worked. When turned on all you could see were orange flames from behind the ornate iron screen.
