Remodel with Cultured Stone
I remodeled the dated glossy green marble with a floor to ceiling fireplace featuring Cultured Stone’s Country Ledge Bucks County. I built a 2×4 frame and sheathed it with cement board to allow for the corner returns and to inset the TV. This gave the overall fire place a natural thickness. The mantel was removed and reused, remounting it 3″ away from the wall. This allowed the stone to encase it, without losing all of its depth. I used “mixed blue” natural stone for the hearth. Likewise I used matching sills as trim around the firebox. I rock faces the sill using a cold chisel and hammer.
