Fireplace Renovation
For more that ½ a Century a simple terra cotta brick façade was the covering for a non-descript fireplace. Then a surprising find at ‘Bottoms Up’, in Kansas City’s West Bottoms, became the inspiration for a facelift. The ornately carved wooden mantle, painted a soft dove grey, and glazed in a soft French Vanilla, turned the fireplace into the focal point of the remodeled Living Room in this Prairie Village, Kansas ranch. Covering the upper brick with drywall, adding decorative moldings, as well as encasing the firebox surround and raised hearth with slab Carrara marble changed ‘plain Jane’ into a beauty. Vintage Victoria Ware vases and a classic oil painting complete the transformation.
