This cottage was a fixerupper when we purchased it in July of 2010. Little did we know that the place would need a complet remodel 6 months latter due to the record flooding of Lake Champlain in 2011. We were not insured for flood.
Since I was a former contrctor and couldn’t afford to hire anyone to do the work, I set out to do it myself on weekends. I raised the buildingt nearly 3 feet with the help of my son Aaron and brother John. I completly gutted the interior and reinsulated with Icinene foam throughout. I installed new thurmal windows, cedar shingle siding, and a standing seam roof. I added all new utilities in the attic, including a 95% aflue hot air furnace and a Rheem tankless water heater. We are utilizing every inch of space, by building builtin chests, and cubby’s wherever possible.
As of today (July 14th.) nearly 3 years after purching, we are finalizing our punch list and will be ready to move in this week.
