Sometimes you need a temporary cap on a pipe but don’t have all the parts. Shown in the drawing is a 4 inch ground water pipe. A 3 inch off-cut with a vertical saw cut as shown provides an easy way to attach a cap to the main pipe. This improvised collar has enough spring and resiliance to hold everything in place. If more holding power is needed a wire or cable tie can be added.
