Marble Floor
When we had our house built, I asked the builder to put carpet in the foyer and the two front rooms on either side. He thought we were crazy because “nobody carpets the foyer,” he said. However, we had a plan to marble them at a later date. At first we were going to use 16-18″ marble tiles since the area was so large, we were afraid 12″ tiles wouldn’t look right. Then one night I awoke at 3 am after have a flash in mind of the design you see in the pictures. I scribbled it down on a piece of paper by the nightstand and showed it to my wife the next day. She loved it, but was worried about the difficulty level since up to this point I had only tiled backsplashes and shower walls. I convinced her I could do it (and prayed I was right) and I began the work using Emperador Cafe for the dark and Cappuccino for the light. At first we only did the foyer and the sitting room, mostly because I have bad knees and I needed a break for a while. We ended up waiting over a year before deciding it was time to marble the music room. This ended up being our biggest mistake since we could no longer match the marble we had bought a year earlier even though it was purchased at the same store, with the same name. The piano room floor has the same design but has a different look because of this difference. I still love the final appearance though.
