Have you ever gone to wind up your stringline on the spool that comes from the store, or a job-site-made one, only to end up with a 100′ of tangled mess due to the braided nature of the string? I’ve come up with an easier solution, for stringlines, I’m now using a chalkline, without any chalk on it. It’s strong enough to pull on, doubles as a quick plumb bob, is already on a super-fast reel (Stanley model), and as a bonus, it already has a hook on it.

or you can use a plastic cord reel for extension cords to wrap your string line back up, so you still have plenty of line for laying out dig lines or footings. reels are b/t 6-10$ at box stores
