This kitchen was the last part of whole house remodel of my own home. Existing kitchen was “developer grade”, poor layout, limited countertop space, wasted spaces and dark corners in cabinets meant lots of eating out. I was limited to working with the existing space as an addition was not possible on my narrow city lot. We decided to eliminate any upper cabinets along the one wall giving the effect of a larger space. One wall was moved 12″ into to living room to provide the extra space needed for a wall oven and large refrigerator. When it came to cabinet selections my wife thought I was out of my mind choosing gloss red, I was tired of every kitchen looking like the next and wanted mine to be a show piece to my clients. Having my own metal and cabinet shops I was able to build a unique island and eating bar to house the dishwasher. I also built a steel table base topped in Quartz to match the height of the walnut bar top. All cabinets feature lighted pullout drawers maximizing available storage space, custom cookie sheet and oven grill cabinets were added above oven and fridge. Backsplash was done in a s/s pebble tile, I left the edge to look like a mountain range reflecting the Rocky Mountains that start 1hr to the west of the home. The range hood was a hybrid, I took a standard hood, gutted the blower and installed a inline blower in the attic to reduce noise. LED lighting was added to the island and the cabinet toe kick. Vinyl flooring was replaced with Santos Mahogany hardwood, popcorn ceiling was stripped, track lighting replaced with liner recessed lighting and fresh knock down texture applied.
