This featured kitchen was a remodel project for a family of four. Their main concern was that the original flow of the kitchen did not allow for two people to work in the space at the same time. The fridge door when opened, would block the walkway into the family room and when sitting at the island, you had your back completely turned away from the family room where everyone gathered. As a designer my main goal is of course to improve the flow of the space and organization. The design direction took a futuristic turn when we incorporated a Miele hood that retracts up and down allowing to have the hood stop at any height.Another interesting element is the Kohler Karbon faucet that is used like a joystick and of course the iridescent glass backsplash with slate stone that allows magenta like colors to pass through the glass for visual stimulation. As for any homeowner with a family, the number one push for a kitchen remodel is the lack of storage space and old appliances. With that said, I come up with creative ways to store everyday items like a designated drawer for specific items like coffee mugs right under the coffee maker, the pull out double trash bins and my all time favorite, the swing up door fronts on the upper cabinets. By moving the refrigerator to the another side, it allowed for a larger island with seating facing out into the family room and created more space for each cook to manage when in the kitchen at the same time.
