The house was designed for a couple who returned to northern Wisconsin home after living for many years in California. They desired to create a comfortable, smart home that would enable them to live their dream of retiring to this picturesque community on the south shore of Lake Superior.
The move was an opportunity to leave a busy active lifestyle behind and to start a new active lifestyle based on tending orchards, gardens and animals and reinvesting in the land & community. The project became both a symbol and a home for these lifestyle changes.
The top priorities for the Project:
– Create a design that is a physical represenation of the history of the land, their personal connection to the area and a home that would support their intentional lifestyle changes.
– Build a home that is timeless, classic, durable & functional
– Take a 19th century farmstead approach to create a 21st century home
– Agressive reduction of energy usage and a focus on local materials and sustainable building practices
