Smithfield Church Column Restoration

During the summer and fall of 2015 I had the honor of taking part in the restoration of the columns and capitals at Smithfield Church near Amenia NY.

After the rot had been removed and repaired with new mahogany staves by Kevin Ireton and Chris Green I was given the task of carving and shaping the flutes to match existing.

Using various carving tools, scrapers, hollow planes from HNT Gordon and shaped sanding blocks for the Festool Linear sander I was able to blend the new flutes with the old.
