The existing kitchen cabinets were tired and unfit for clutter containment in this 1950 apartment. The kitchen begged for a refresh. A well-timed remodel at a neighbor’s house freed up some beautiful Douglas Fir cabinets and a nice quality stainless sink. As the kitchen is small (6’x9′), we had to edit, chop up and reconfigure the cabinets, then refinish. A sweet rich “surfin’ blue” laminate countertop fit the budget and tied things together, At one end of the counter we included a chunk of butcherblock also saved from the neighbor’s kitchen.
On a modest budget, we transformed the kitchen with something old (cabs, sink), new (faucet and modest lighting), borrowed (the framed bikeshop print is a loaner) and something (surfin’) blue, without changing the footprint or the fixture layout.
