this was a new construction kitchen for a couple, built into a cliff, literally on a lake… A designer I’ve frequently worked with in the past said to me: ” It’s something else… they want glass doors for some cabinets that will be all windows in the back!” After discussing details and finding our that it was a family we know, and they wanted us involved in the bathrooms and walnut floors throughtou the house, I was in. The homeownder (an artist) provided the designer with sketches of exactly what they wanted (which we may have to find…) The window above the cooktop was an afterthought, if you are in the correct spots, you can see a stone slope giong down to the lake… and these photos do not show how the entire area seems cantilevered over a lake with incerdible views from the side I appearently forgot to photograph…

Hi, I saw your kitchen entry. Nice looking project. My name is Birdie Miller, I'm a cabinetmaker in NJ. I have an entry also.
I saw that your kitchen had a faceframe case with inset doors and you used concealed hinges.
Since we are both into traditional projects, I wanted to invite you to check out something I invented.
A faux butt hinge. If you get a chance check it out.
Best of luck!

It’s not too hard to agree that this is “something else”. Glass doors or not, why in the world place cabinets in front of windows that provide an important view? More importantly, why put in cabinets so high up at all? Not all that many folks are 6-8 basketball centers. Sure, you can keep one of those little 2- or 3 step ladders in the kitchen, but it’s a lot more convenient to just keep the stuff in drawers below the counter. Nowadays, with these really great kitchen drawers available, above the counter cabinets are something to minimize and if possible at all, avoid completely. The only thing worse than over the counter cabinets is over the counter cabinets combined with under the counter cabinets with shelves. Aside from convenience and ergonomics, there’s the esthetics of these monstrous dominant cabinets.
