In March of 2015 we purchased a 1921 “California” brick bungalow located bayside in Cape Charles VA. [yes we know you have never heard of it!]. Cape Charles is a National Historic Landmark town located on the southern tip of the Virginai Eastern shore on the Chesapeake Bay.
The house was extremely well built but had suffered several unfortunate 1970’s “updates” which included an explosian of knotty pine in the bathrooms and in the kitchen. We immediately started on a total house renovation keeping as many of the original details as possible while bringing the house up to modern standards where possible.
Our goal with the bathroom was to design a casually elegant compact bathroom without being “beachy kitschy”. We were limited to the original 8′-6″ x 8′-6″ footprint and needed to incorporate maximum storage and efficiency since this is the only full bath in the house. We also wanted to highlight the historic windows and incorporate both vintage finds and locally sourced products.
