Bath remodel within existing 8′ x 8′ room. Expanded into adjacent closets to gain alcoves for toilet and for laundry bin. Old fixtures did not meet 1992 EPAct. Old galvanized piping provided minimal flow and eventually no hot water. 1970s era remodel not aesthetically harmonious with remainder of classic Craftsman house, or with anything else for that matter.
Gutted room to studs, updated all piping, installed new wood lath and three coat gypsum plaster. Removed tub wall to open up room and admit daylight. Relocated toilet to more private alcove. Relocated tub to prominent place under window. Relocated sink next to door. New fixtures, new faucets, new lighting, new finishes complete.
Started this project as a weekend warrior when my younger son was born. Finished it just in time for him to leave for college. Now it is a delight to get up and bathe each morning.
