This classic Minneapolis house had a common dilemma: cramped kitchen, tiny mudroom, and no view to the backyard. A simple two-story addition was added to the back of the house, gaining a master suite on the upper level and expanding the kitchen and mudroom on the main level. The new galley kitchen takes advantage of every square inch with a narrow, hardworking island, full-depth counters, appliances located on the exterior wall, and pantry/bar storage built into the interior wall. The kitchen links the original dining room to a new eating nook, which overlooks the back yard and features large windows, built-in bench, and additional storage. Architect: Rehkamp Larson Architects
