We started with an old home in serious disrepair located on a beautiful, ten-acre lakefront property. It was an extensive remodel that combined a small kitchen and dining room plus an addition to create an open and airy, rustic kitchen with a beautiful view of the forested backyard. The cabinetry was made with knotty alder, the ceiling is T&G poplar and a china cabinet was built from used barnwood. Ceiling beams and the kitchen door were also constructed of barnwood. The range hood is barnwood and rusted tin from the barn roof.
The kitchen flows into the livingroom through a large arch so the rooms combine for entertaining. There is flow-through ventilation from the livingroom windows to the kitchen windows. The kitchen has a dutch door leading to a rustic deck as an outdoor eating and entertaining extension of the kitchen.
The base of the barnwood china cabinet was sized to be a dog bed for our three Vizslas.
