To create a master bath that was not only functional but also served as a welcoming retreat, the homeowner wanted accents that would create a bright colorful contrast to the tile and marble used in the walls and floor. A strip made up of custom 4.5″ high stained glass panels were chosen to surround the room, breaking up the wall tile and adding a splash of color complementing the tile and marble colors. While the stained glass added a perfect accent by day, LED back lighting was added to further enhance the experience once the sun set, creating a colorful nightlight that surrounds the entire room. Many varieties of stained glass become muted if no light passes through it. The stained glass used in the panel construction would have to be chosen that would allow it’s colors to pop during the day without backlight. To get the best overall effect of the stained glass at night, as much light as possible would be needed as a backlight for the stained glass panels. That would require a minimum voltage drop from the DC power supply that would light the LEDs. It would also be critical to direct as much of that light as we could to backside of the stained glass panels.
