Vinyl Floor Divider Material as Counter-top Edging
I used a M-D Vinyl Floor Divider Product to use as my counter top edging.
M-D and FLEXO make similar products (Flexo has more colors).
– A lot of DIY folks will resurface their counter tops with ceramic tiles. From solid colors, stone finish facsimile tiles… to granite tiles. The cost comes with the edge. Bull Nose tiles of the same type can cost up to three times more that the cost of a 12×12 tile.
– I installed a stone facsimile ceramic tile counter top (lots of browns, greys, and some blacks). I used M-D’s ‘Black Floor Divider’ as my counter top edging. Had to paint the aluminum sub-strate/insert frame black before installation to achieve this. The key is measurement. Height of the finished tile and the spacing from edge of the tile to the inner top lip of the floor divider product (grout groove).
— As an additional cost saving measure, the tile and edging was installed directly over existing (Formica, particle board) counter tops. I just took a belt sander (with heavy grit sandpaper) to the entire surface. Then I took a circular saw and cut in lots of random 1/16″ grooves into the surface (for the tile mastic to ‘bite’ into).
– Love it, love it, love. Since it was designed as a flooring product, its hardy. Since its vinyl, it it hides scratches.
– Helped my cousin install a DIY black granite tile kitchen project (8 years ago). Edging was hard oak
trim. Since then… Lots of dings, dents, and scars on the oak edging.
