Net-Zero House
I’ve just completed my first year in our net-zero house. The local builders said I was crazy, I read too much, but after a year, “WOW” ! Here is my blog on the building of the house:
And it all started from your articles from your magazine. And it looks like a normal Craftsman house. It is our retirement home. I’ve modeled the solar system per our usage. I designed the floor plan to match our aging-in-place needs. I Co-GCed with local general contractor.

House, craftsmen look, 2640 sqft 3br 2.5 baths The first floor is living space for retired couple, second is guest space, sealed off from 1St floor.

Foundation, sandwich 4" concrete; 4" insulation, 4" concreter. R20 walls, R10 floor

Sheathing complete ready for first Blower Door test.

2 2x4 walls with a 10" cavity, 2" closed cell foam & 8" cellulous +R-45 side R-55 ceilings. Windows are Clearwall Irish made European style,
