Whenever adding a backsplash to a kitchen the existing plugs are often too shallow, and the plugs have to be spaced out to the new correct depth. Using several washers to space out the plugs is difficult because the washers never stay on the screw. A simpler way is to use 3/8″ copper tubing and cut it to length…it stays on the screw while attaching the plug, and makes life much easier.
