Straight edges can be in high demand on a jobsite. Sometimes, they’re upstairs and you’ve just been up there. Perhaps a co-worker pickpocketed your trusty chalkline because they neglected to refill theirs. Again.
Your tape measure is already out while you mark your crow’s feet. Join the points you just made with one edge of the measuring tape, hooking the dumb end of the tape on the side of your material. Push down the side of your tape that lines up with your marks. Pull the tape taut and run your pencil along it.
Once you get accustomed to this motion, you’ll be faster and able to create longer lines.
