Selecting the Right Paintbrush Size
Room size and substrate are two factors that determine the choice you should make.

When selecting a brush, you need to think about the substrate you’re painting and the size of the room. If you’re cutting walls in a big room, you want a larger brush that is about 2.5 or 3 in. in order to move a lot of paint around quickly.
If you’re working in a smaller space or with a lot of inside corners, you want a smaller brush—2 in.—or an angled sash to really get in there. My favorite characteristics in a brush are soft, dense bristles with a good amount of spring in them so you can really control the paint and lay off a perfect finish. If you’re painting trim, you want a brush that fits the size of the substrate and also has a lot of dense, soft bristles to lay that finish off nicely.
