Install a Stair Rail Series: Stair Balustrade Installation, Part 1
See the correct way to locate and secure balusters for a pleasing and professional look
In the last episode, we saw our carpenter, Chris Whalen, picking up the pieces after the original carpenter installed the balcony handrail too low with improper baluster spacing. In this episode Chris will follow the original carpenter’s tour of misadventures over to the stair railing.
Predictably, there is a lot for Chris to fix. Like the balcony railing, the original carpenter installed the stair railing too low and baluster spacing was, let’s just say, creative.
In this episode, you’ll see the correct way to locate and secure balusters for a pleasing and professional look. You’ll also learn how Chris uses the infamous “board stretcher” to raise the height of the handrail while reusing the original balusters.
