If you need to run a stringline because you’re laying a foundation or straightening out a framing wall, you could tie a slip knot and hope that you can get that knot out later, but there’s a better way.
This tip comes from the old days of Fine Homebuilding. The technique involves tensioning string to hold it in. It’s a great way to secure a stringline, that’s also quick and easy to untie.

Wow, use a pencil sharpener to sharpen a pencil! Didn't see that coming ;-). You know, they make tiny hand-held sharpeners for round pencils. No need to carry around that contraption.
When you need to save a tube of caulking to use later just stick the end into a plastic cup with 1.5" of water in the bottom. It will keep the caulk fresh as new for months.
