After I sorted out the elevation of the front porch rafter ledger I pretty much turned over layout and construction to Nick and Addison. They mounted the ledger to the wall, drilled and anchored the bases to the slab, erected and braced the posts, cut and set the beam, transferred the rafter layout from the ledger to the beam, and calculated the rafters – then cut and set them. After the rafters were set they installed metal connectors to resist wind uplift and finally sheathed the roof.
The whole process took place over three days working a couple hours each morning. Though it’s still just at the rough framing stage, building the porch makes a big change to the appearance of the front of the house.
