Gladiators in the Garage
A Gladiator storage system and workbench outfit the garage as a neat and functional space
I usually install site-built storage shelves in garages using the remaining framing lumber from a job and left-over pieces of sheathing. On the FHB House we’re installing Gladiator storage cabinets, a workbench, and other accessory storage accessories. The work starts with assembling the steel cabinets. After assembling one wall cabinet myself to judge the amount of time it would take, I budgeted several two-hour class visits working with Adam, Brandon, and Cameron to get the rest of the cabinets assembled. The guys surprised me by blowing through two sets of wall and base cabinets in less than two hours. I could tell after 20 minutes that I didn’t have to watch their work β the instructions were clear and any errors the guys made were made obvious when the next part didn’t fit properly, so they could back up and make corrections.
I can never guess what projects on the FHB House will be enjoyable for the students or a drag. I figured cabinet assembly would be a pain β probably because I neglect reading directions. They, on the other hand, seemed to have fun working together and seeing how efficiently they could complete the assembly. They did it far better and faster than I could have.
