FHB House 2017: Introducing a Net-Zero, Production-Style Build
The Vermont project balances affordability and energy efficiency.
Welcome to FHB House 2017, where we at Fine Homebuilding will take you onto the job site to watch the construction of an energy-efficient home. Last year, we focused on a custom project. This year, it’s all about production-style building. We’re going to learn how to balance affordability and energy efficiency. For that, we came to Wilder, Vermont. Southscape is the name of Vermont’s first-ever net-zero community—and it’s also the location of our next FHB House. The community is designed for eight production-style houses, all oriented for maximum solar gain, and all built to strict performance standards determined by the design/build team at Prudent Living.
