FHB House 2017: Design
The modified Cape / Farmhouse look fits the neighborhood, appealing to scale-downers and young families.
Cost and energy efficiency considerations drove many design decisions for the FHB House project. But the upgrades inside, like the cabinets and counters in the kitchen and the radiant heat in the bathroom, help to make the sale. Watch this video to see how these factors related to finish a beautiful and affordable production home.

Interesting. Around here, people buy new homes for the reason that they can choose their interior and exterior finishes within the scope of the builder's regular selection or upgrade choices. Model homes are significantly discounted, partly because the builder wants to move on and partly because there is no choice.
On Houzz I regularly see kitchens like this one pulled out because the new owner wants the latest and arguably, timeless trend of white and yet this is where this builder decided to spend money on upgrades that he must recoup.
Well I like this kitchen and I like real wood. I am revolted by the sheeple who will rip out perfectly good and often very nice cabinets and fixtures and such just so they can make a house that looks like every other house they see on TV. I wish they would get a life. Better yet, they should go find some other world to burden with their hand-wringing angst about being in any way different.
We are currently replacing the old, worn out and partially stove-fire damaged cabinets in our kitchen with some demo cabinets that we got off of Craigslist. They are unused, but have been installed and removed and were extremely cheap. They look almost like new - most of them only need some faceframe screw holes filled - and that's good enough. There were so many of them that we have everything we need for the kitchen and will have leftovers to put in the garage, one bathroom, the laundry room, a hobby room, and to sell or give away on CL when we are done. We'll be selling in a couple of years and fully expect the buyers to rip out whatever we put in and replace it. Let them waste their money on a redo and not ours. I would be happy to put in nice cabinets if I thought I could get my money back from them, but like Suburbanguy says, everyone has to rip them out these days. These look good enough to sell the house and show how nice the kitchen can be.
