Chimney Details and Stone-Veneer Siding
The team at the Connecticut FHB House discusses why they saved an old stone chimney, and walks us through the details needed to add masonry veneer to a superinsulated house.
Patrick McCombe is back at the 2020 Fine Homebuilding House to admire the original stone chimney, which the design team felt was a crucial element to keep despite the challenge of incorporating it into this Passive House remodel. While he’s there, Elizabeth DiSalvo of Trillium Architects and Albert Jensen-Moulten from BPC Green Builders show Patrick the unique fluid-applied underlayment they installed over the rainscreen walls to ensure that the home’s new Eldorado Stone masonry veneer will be part of a durable, weatherproof wall assembly.
